  3. I’ve had my one and only digital SLR (Nikon D70) since November 2004. I think I’m ready for new equipment. I held a D90 and loved it. But I’ve come home and read that the 5100 is newer and more up to speed. Which is what I want, because I don’t plan to buy another SLR for another seven or more years. Help help help.

    • as owner of D5100 i can say – go for the D5100, better sensor, lighter, smaller and newer.
      but notice , it has a little bit less manual controls, and no top LCD screen as the D90, make sure you don’t need these first, and if you do check also the D7000, if not – go with the D5100.

  4. Yes, I’ve since realized that the 5100 lacks the two manual controls for aperture and shutter speed. I’d certainly miss those. Now I’m leaning toward the D90. Sigh. Thanks, Thom!
